Insulin Syringes: The Standard Tool
Peptide research primarily utilizes insulin syringes due to their precise volumetric design, fine needles (29G to 31G), and fixed needle hubs that minimize “dead space” (wasted compound residual).
Syringe Types & Scales
U-100 (1.0 mL): Holds 100 units (100 units = 1.0 mL). Best for doses from 10 to 100 units (0.10 to 1.00 mL). Standard tool for reconstitutions.
U-100 (0.5 mL): Holds 50 units (50 units = 0.5 mL). Features wider tick mark spacing for precise 5 to 50 unit draws (0.05 to 0.50 mL).
U-100 (0.3 mL): Holds 30 units (30 units = 0.3 mL). Includes half-unit marks for micro-dosing under 30 units (0.01 to 0.30 mL).
U-50 / U-20 Syringes: Alternative capacities where 1 unit still equals 0.01 mL, but total barrel capacity is limited (0.5 mL and 0.2 mL, respectively).
How to Read a Syringe
Verify Syringe Scale: Check the barrel to confirm it states U-100.
Identify Tick Increments: On 1.0 mL syringes, lines typically represent 2 units. On 0.5 mL and 0.3 mL barrels, lines usually represent 1 unit or 0.5 units.
Align Plunger Edge: Read measurements at the top flat edge of the black rubber stopper (closest to the needle point), not the bottom curve.
Clear Air Bubbles: Flick the barrel while vertical (needle up) and push the plunger slightly to clear air pockets that displace liquid volume.

Critical Distinction: Syringe “units” are volume marks (1 unit = 0.01 mL). They are not biological International Units (IU).
Conversion Math Formula
Calculating any injection draw follows three simple steps:
Calculate Concentration:
Concentration (mg/mL) = Total Peptide in Vial (mg) / BAC Water Added (mL)
Calculate Dose Volume:
Dose Volume (mL) = Target Dose (mg) / Concentration (mg/mL)
Convert to Syringe Units:
Syringe Units = Dose Volume (mL) x 100

Common Dosing Mistakes
Equating Syringe Units with IU: Drawing to mark “2” on a syringe when prescribed 2 IU of HGH will result in severe under-dosing.
Confusing mg and mcg: Failing to convert units creates a 1,000x calculation error (250 mcg = 0.25 mg).
Reading the Plunger Dome: Measuring from the bottom curve of the rubber stopper rather than the top flat rim causes consistent volume errors.
Mismatched Syringe Size: Attempting to measure small micro-doses (e.g., 4 units) on a large 1.0 mL barrel reduces visual accuracy.
Needle Gauge & Length
Needle Gauge (Thickness): Higher numbers indicate thinner needles.
29G: Standard; ideal for drawing thicker liquids easily.
30G / 31G: Ultra-thin; minimizes tissue disruption for subcutaneous injection.
Needle Length:
1/2 inch (12.7 mm): Standard depth for subcutaneous injections across standard body types.
5/16 inch (8 mm): Preferred for shallow subcutaneous injection or lower body-fat areas.
